GATE Membership Levels
Member (MGATE)
Full membership is for qualified and practicing Transition Engineers from various engineering disciplines.
Gain recognition for your education, experience and competences in the Transition Engineering approach and being able to work through wicked problems and innovate down-shift projects. This professional recognition gains you MGATE status.
Important - to become a full Member of GATE we require supporting information to be uploaded with your application. This includes your CV, copies of your qualifications, identification, a completed Professional Engineering Institution competency framework and supporting letters from two sponsors. A detailed breakdown of the application process and the information we require for full Members is provided here.
You can complete the application process to become a full Member of GATE and upload required supporting information later. However it is strongly advised that you review the requirements and download the Member Competence Framework for completion offline prior to completing the GATE application as this will significantly speed-up the acceptance process.
Associate (AGATE)
This membership level is for those seeking to gain recognition for awareness of sustainability issues, the climate
crisis, renewable energy, recycling, and energy efficiency.
Associates are keen to learn the Transition Engineering approach and are willing to work in teams on sustainability problems and to carry out Transition Engineering projects. Applicants are likely to be individuals currently studying or in training, those recently qualified, or people who work in the wider field of sustainability or have an active and demonstrable interest in Transition Engineering approaches to solve problems.
This professional recognition gains you AGATE status.

You can complete the application process to become an Associate of GATE and upload required supporting information later, however it is strongly advised that you have these documents to hand before completing the GATE application as this will significantly speed-up the acceptance process.
Affiliate
This membership level is for anyone who supports the objectives of GATE and really wants to change our
unsustainable trajectory. Through positive action and demonstrating commitment to improving the systems on which society depends so that they will continue to work in a changing future - Affiliates are really able to help make a difference.
Affiliates are particularly welcome to support the operations and work of GATE either through setting up a local Transition Engineering groups and student interest groups or volunteering time and sharing their particular skills with the running of GATE.
