GATE Member (MGATE) applicants - guidance for sponsors

This guidance is directed at potential sponsors for your MGATE application. You can send your sponsors this link so they can understand their responsibilities.

Note this policy does not apply to Affiliates or Associates of GATE.

The profession recognition of MGATE requires that applications to GATE have two sponsors, one of which must also hold MGATE, who can review and endorse their application. Signed letters from sponsors, on official headed paper (where appropriate), must be submitted alongside the prospective Gate Members application. An example sponsor letter of support is available here.

Sponsor letters should meet the following requirements:

  1. As a sponsor you must hold either:
    -  MGATE professional recognition
    -
and / or hold the registrations that the individual you are sponsoring is applying for*

  2. Sponsor letters should be dated within six months of the sponsored individual's application date – please note that sponsor letters older than six months will be invalid which will cause a delay in processing an application.

  3. As a sponsors you should clearly state that you are sponsoring the sponsored individual for MGATE and also state what external registration you are supporting them for (e.g. CEng and / or CEnv in addition to MGATE)*.

  4. You must detail the capacity in which you know the sponsored individual and why you believe they are suited for MGATE and any other Professional Registrations sought*.

  5. You should confirm that you have reviewed the sponsored individuals application and that you endorse its content. Clear, definitive statements to confirm the you are satisfied that the application demonstrates the mandatory competencies should be included.
