This years Convergence will take place on 13th November 2025

Online · 07:00 – 09:30 (GMT)

Join GATE for an interactive online event exploring how Transition Engineering can help practitioners build “the capacity to continue meeting needs within changing external constraints.”

YOU will be setting the agenda for future work; join in and make your voice heard.

Sustainability is fundamentally about continuity - the ability to keep doing what we need to do, even as conditions change. Yet, in many cases, sustainability has been applied in ways that fall short of this goal. Transition Engineering reframes sustainability as a practical process of adapting our systems, organisations, and behaviours to cope with realities such as limited energy, climate impacts, and pollution, but it extends well beyond the “green agenda.”

The Convergence will be followed by 30 minutes for the GATE Annual General Meeting - all are welcome to attend.

Why Convergence?

The convergence of different ideas, groups, or societies is the process by which they stop being different and become more similar.

Downshifting unsustainability requires convergence.

What to expect

This Convergence will feature facilitated roundtable discussions designed to:

  • Identify key questions that professionals across disciplines still need to answer in order to achieve genuine sustainability.

  • Plan collaborative actions and partnerships to find those answers and create practical tools and resources that empower practitioners to provide credible, evidence-based advice.

  • Explore ideas such as how to continuously update future models and adapt practice as new insights emerge.

  • Share insights and learning through GATE, with the aim of shaping a larger future event to showcase progress and outcomes.

Why you should participate?

  • Education.
  • Collaboration.
  • Insight.
  • Engage with top minds across diverse disciplines to discuss the latest educational innovation and collaborative strategies.

How to participate

Convergence 2025 is an online only meeting.

  • Time: 07:00 – 09:30 (GMT) · 20:00 – 22:30 (NZDT)
